Manchester United is planning a defensive overhaul this summer, with Brazilian defender Eder Militao of Real Madrid identified as a primary target to bolster the Red Devils’ ranks.
Reports indicate that the English club is prepared to offer up to €40 million to convince the Spanish giants to part with the solid defender.
Officials at Old Trafford believe Militao represents the ideal solution to the team’s defensive woes, thanks to his extensive experience in European football and his age, which grants him peak performance (28 years old).
Real Madrid, for its part, is not opposed to selling the player in principle, especially given its need to balance its books. However, there is a sense of unease within the Santiago Bernabéu regarding the difficulty of finding a replacement with the same technical and leadership qualities as Militao in the heart of the defense.
Despite the Brazilian star’s considerable talent, his injury-plagued medical history raises some concerns. Militao has missed most of the current season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
This history could prove a stumbling block in negotiations, but Manchester United seem determined to bet on the player regaining his previous form after a full recovery.
