Hansi Flick’s time as Barcelona coach is likely nearing its end, as the German manager is seriously considering leaving Camp Nou at the end of the current season, but only under one condition.
Flick took over at Barça in the summer of 2014, succeeding Xavi Hernandez, and has so far won four titles: one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.
President Joan Laporta brought Flick to Barcelona, and the two enjoy a very close relationship that has contributed to the great stability at Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s board elections are scheduled for mid-March, and it is doubtful that Laporta will win and continue for another four years as president of the Blaugrana, a prospect that worries Flick greatly.
According to Marca, Flick is seriously considering leaving Barcelona if any presidential candidate other than Laporta wins the presidency of the Catalan club.
The German coach believes he won’t get along well with anyone other than Laporta, especially since some candidates, like Victor Font, have hinted at their dislike for Flick’s methods and ideas and might even work to oust him.
It’s worth noting that Font, considered the frontrunner alongside Laporta, enjoys strong support from former coach Xavi Hernandez, and some reports suggest that Font intends to bring him back to coach Barcelona should he succeed in winning the presidency of the prestigious club.
