Despite his goal vs Sunderland, a statistic confirms how modest Gyökeres’s performance

Victor Gyokeres’ transfer from Sporting to Arsenal last summer was one of the most complicated deals, and hopes were high that the Swedish player would transform the Gunners’ attack.

In reality, Gyokeres has yet to live up to expectations, a fact underscored by his goal tally in the Premier League so far.

Gyokeres scored twice for Arsenal against Sunderland on Saturday, his eighth Premier League goal of the season.

Interestingly, the majority of Gyokeres’ goals in the English competition have come against newly promoted sides: Leeds United, Burnley, and most recently, Sunderland.

The Swede has scored three goals against Leeds, one against Burnley, two against Sunderland, and one against Nottingham Forest, who are battling relegation this season.

Gyokeres has also scored four goals in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup, totaling 13 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions – a rather modest number.
