Lamine Yamal scored a goal in Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Elche on Sunday in the 22nd round of La Liga.
This goal holds special significance for the 18-year-old, as it puts him ahead of one of the greatest football legends in history, Diego Armando Maradona.
This was Yamal’s 23rd La Liga goal for Barcelona, surpassing Maradona’s 23 goals in the league during his two years with Barça between 1982 and 1984.
Yamal has not only surpassed a legend from the previous generation, but also a current one, namely Antoine Griezmann, who played for Barcelona for three years and scored only 22 goals in the Blaugrana shirt before returning to Atlético Madrid.
With this goal, Yamal’s total career goal contributions reached 100, comprising 44 goals and 56 assists, in 157 official matches played before his 19th birthday.
For Barcelona, Lamine Yamal scored 38 goals and provided 45 assists in 134 appearances, while for Spain, he has scored 6 goals and provided 11 assists in 23 matches.
