The Spanish newspaper AS revealed that Sergio Ramos has received a lucrative offer from Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya to join them on a free transfer this winter.
Ramos has been without a club since leaving Monterrey at the end of last year, amid reports suggesting a move to Sevilla, who are reportedly close to acquiring a majority stake in the club.
According to the report, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya made a serious offer to Ramos, with a salary ranging from $3 million to $4 million annually. The Spanish legend’s agent welcomed the offer, and discussions are currently underway before a final decision is made.
The president of Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya stated that the decision now rests with Ramos, and that negotiations have become somewhat complicated in recent hours after AC Milan entered the fray with the 39-year-old, offering him $5 million per year.
Ramos is inclined to move to a European club in the hopes of convincing coach Luis de la Fuente to include him in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, AC Milan currently appears to be the frontrunner, with Sevilla a less likely option should the acquisition be finalized in the coming days.
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya currently sits second in the Iraqi Premier League, just one point behind leaders Al-Karma. They are one of Iraq’s richest and most historically successful clubs, yet the move to negotiate with Ramos remains relatively surprising, especially given its unexpected nature.
