Amid Spanish interest, Bayern Munich announces the departure of its star player

Bayern Munich announced in an official statement that Leon Goretzka will leave the Bavarian club after his contract expires at the end of the current season.

The 31-year-old joined Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 from Schalke and has since become a key player in the Bavarian midfield, before his form declined noticeably in the last two seasons in particular.

According to Sky Sports, a frank discussion took place between Goretzka and the Bayern management in recent days, leading to an agreement to terminate his contract, which expires next June.

At the same time, Goretzka had the opportunity to move to Atlético Madrid this winter, as Bayern’s management had already agreed to sell him for a relatively low fee. However, the player ultimately chose to stay until the end of the season at the Allianz Arena.

Goretzka wants to finish the season strongly with Bayern Munich to secure his place in Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad. He then plans to consider offers and embark on a new chapter, likely outside of Germany for the first time in his career.

Atletico Madrid are expected to renew their interest in signing the German international next summer, but Los Rojiblancos are not the only club interested in Goretzka. Clubs from England and AC Milan are also monitoring the situation.
