The newspaper “Sport” reported that Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, personally contacted Barcelona president Joan Laporta to discuss the transfer of young player Dro Fernandez to the French club.
The 18-year-old Drew shocked everyone at Barcelona when he decided to leave the Blaugrana this winter, taking advantage of the €6 million release clause in his contract.
Hansi Flick excluded the young player from Barcelona’s group training sessions, and a campaign was launched against him and his agent in the Catalan press, given that the German coach had given him a chance with the first team and was one of his biggest believers, only to be shocked by his sudden decision to leave.
According to the report, Barcelona’s management informed Dro’s representative that he had a choice: either leave through the back door for €6 million, or Paris Saint-Germain would enter into negotiations with Joan Laporta’s administration to increase this amount, which would make the situation slightly easier.
Given the recent restoration of personal relations between Al-Khelaifi and Laporta, the Qatari president decided to speak directly with his counterpart to negotiate the transfer fee and maintain the positive relationship between the two clubs after years of estrangement and various crises.
Al-Khelaifi and Laporta are expected to agree on the final value of the deal within the next few hours, making it only a matter of time before Dro’s transfer to PSG is officially announced.
Barcelona’s door will remain closed to him in the future, just as it has been for a number of other talented players, most notably Moriba.
