Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced the date for the club’s new board elections, stating that the Catalan giants are entering an important democratic phase that reflects the club’s long-standing values.
Laporta assumed the presidency of Barcelona in 2021, successfully revitalizing the club and addressing a significant portion of the economic crisis left by his predecessor, Josep Maria Bartomeu. He has announced his intention to run for another term.
The new Barcelona elections will be held on March 15th, requiring the current board members to resign at the beginning of February to ensure a level playing field for all candidates.
Laporta revealed that he chose this specific date for the elections to give the club ample time to finish the current season in a stable environment, while also allowing the incoming board sufficient time to prepare for the new season.
Laporta also emphasized that the club will manage this transitional period with the utmost professionalism to ensure no administrative vacuum occurs that could disrupt the daily operations of the Catalan club.
It is worth noting that Victor Font announced his candidacy for the presidency of Barcelona and that he will compete against Laporta, and he enjoys the support and endorsement of a large number of the club’s legends, most notably Xavi Hernandez.
