Morocco Denies Death of Volunteer Victim of Violence from Senegalese Fans

Moroccan National Security has denied rumors circulating about the death of a volunteer at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium during the Morocco-Senegal match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Rumors had spread that a volunteer at the stadium was a victim of violence perpetrated by Senegalese fans who stormed the pitch after Morocco was awarded a penalty kick and began assaulting volunteers and ball boys.

In an official statement, Moroccan security denied the veracity of these claims, stating, “No deaths have been recorded among members of the security forces or ball boys, nor have any procedures been initiated to examine the body of anyone who died as a result of incidents related to sports-related violence.”

The statement added, “While the National Security services refute these false and misleading reports, they emphasize that they have notified the competent judicial authorities of the content of these misleading publications and have requested their instructions to open judicial investigations to identify those involved in their dissemination and spread, in order to determine responsibility and impose legal penalties.”

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had announced that it had filed an official complaint with CAF and FIFA against Senegal because of the players’ withdrawal from the final after the penalty kick was awarded and the unfortunate events that accompanied it inside and outside the stadium.
