Manchester City announced in an official statement the termination of Claudio Etcheverry’s loan to Bayer Leverkusen and his loan to Girona until the end of the season.
The Argentine international joined the German club last summer, but failed to win over coach Kasper Hømland and barely featured for Leverkusen over the past six months.
Given the player’s desire for consistent playing time, it was decided to end his loan to Leverkusen and loan him to Girona, where the environment seems more suitable for him, with a coach like Miguel Sánchez who knows how to manage exceptional talent in football.
Girona’s owners are the same as Manchester City’s, and consequently, the 19-year-old will be closely monitored in preparation for his return to the Etihad Stadium soon.
Etcheverry only made 11 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, failing to score and providing just one assist.
It is worth noting that Manchester City signed Etcheverry in the summer of 2024 from River Plate for 18 million euros, and he remained on loan until January 2025 to his Argentinian team. After that, he was unable to convince Pep Guardiola to include him in the squad last season, so he was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen.
