Mourinho mocks rumors of a Real Madrid return

Benfica coach Jose Mourinho has ridiculed the persistent rumors linking him to a return to Real Madrid.

The Special One has been linked to Real Madrid since the sacking of Xabi Alonso, given his close relationship with president Florentino Perez, who has already begun searching for a permanent manager to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

It has been suggested that Perez favors Mourinho, who is believed to be capable of instilling discipline within the team and winning titles, especially considering the Portuguese manager’s first stint at Real Madrid was the foundation of all the club’s successes in the last decade.

When asked about a possible return to the Spanish giants, Mourinho responded, “Don’t count on me watching soap operas.”

He added, “There are good soap operas, but they’re very long. You might miss an episode or two and lose focus. Don’t count on me, because I don’t watch soap operas.”

Mourinho is currently managing Benfica until the end of the season, and it seems likely he will leave the Portuguese giants and not renew his contract for another year, given the recent controversies within the club stemming from his tenure.

Meanwhile, Álvaro Arbeloa currently has the backing of Real Madrid’s management until the end of the season, and the decision to appoint Mourinho, or any other manager, hinges on the titles the current coach manages to win with Los Blancos.
