Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace management of his intention to leave the English club in the upcoming summer transfer window and embark on a new adventure, likely outside the Premier League.
The French international’s decision comes just hours after manager Oliver Glasner announced that he too is set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the current season in search of a new challenge.
According to English media reports, Mateta has reached his limit with Palace after attracting interest from several clubs both in England and abroad.
The 28-year-old’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, so Palace management would be willing to sell him this summer and recoup some money rather than lose him for free next year.
Juventus appears to be Mateta’s most likely destination at present, with negotiations between the player and the Italian club reportedly at an advanced stage. However, the Bianconeri’s only remaining obstacle is meeting Crystal Palace’s financial demands.
Meanwhile, Mateta has no intention of moving to the Saudi league now, despite receiving a tempting offer from Al-Shabab. He prefers either to stay in England or move to a club in one of the top five European leagues.
It’s worth noting that center-back Marc Guehi is set to leave Crystal Palace this winter for Manchester City, just as Michael Ulise last year left for Bayern Munich, and in the summer of 2025, Eze moved to Arsenal. With Mateta’s departure, the curtain falls on one of the most entertaining English teams in history.
