Karim Benzema was present at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (The Shining Jewel) to watch the 2026 Spanish Super Cup final between his former team, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
Benzema met with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez in the stands, where they had a lengthy conversation, the details of which were revealed by journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon.
The French legend offered Pérez two pieces of advice. First, he urged him to support Xabi Alonso and not dismiss him from coaching the Royal Club anytime soon. He emphasized to the president that the Basque coach has everything it takes to become one of the best in the world and bring Real Madrid back to winning ways.
Benzema’s second piece of advice to Pérez was the necessity of signing new midfielders to replace Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, pointing to the void left by the duo and the failure of the current players to fill it.
It seems that Pérez has taken Benzema’s advice into account, as Spanish media outlets have confirmed that the president has decided to keep Xabi Alonso despite the 3-2 defeat to Barcelona.
The relationship between Benzema and Pérez is known to be very close, with the player recently stating that he would return to Real Madrid after retirement without any conditions, simply if Florentino Pérez asked him to.
It is worth noting that an agreement already exists between Benzema and Pérez for the 37-year-old to serve as an ambassador for Real Madrid once his time with Al-Ittihad ends and he retires from football.
