Marmoush scores Egypt’s fastest goal in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages

Omar Marmoush scored the opening goal for Egypt against Ivory Coast in the fourth minute of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match at the Adrar Stadium.

Marmoush received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, dribbled past an Ivorian defender, and unleashed an unstoppable shot that gave the Egyptians a surprising early lead.

Marmoush’s goal became the fastest ever scored by Egypt in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations throughout the Pharaohs’ history in the tournament.

The previous record was held by Hassan El-Shazly, who scored against Ivory Coast in the 1970 Africa Cup of Nations after exactly three minutes.

This was Marmoush’s second goal in this competition, following his first against Mozambique in the opening group stage match.

In total, the Manchester City star has scored 10 international goals since joining the Egyptian national team for the first time in 2021.
