Mahmoud Hussein Trezeguet, the Egyptian national team star, confirmed that he has recovered from his recent injury and is ready to participate in his country’s match against Ivory Coast on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Trezeguet was unable to finish Egypt’s match against Benin in the round of 16 after suffering a torn ankle ligament. The Pharaohs’ media team subsequently declared it “impossible” for the Al-Ahly star to be available for the Ivory Coast match.
However, Trezeguet appeared at the pre-match press conference on Friday and announced his readiness, adding, “We raced against time to recover and put in a great deal of effort with Dr. Mohamed Abou El-Ela (head of the Egyptian national team’s medical staff).”
He continued, “God willing, I am ready for the match and at the disposal of the coaching staff, led by Hossam Hassan, to participate in the game.”
Trezeguet is a key player for the Egyptian national team in the current Africa Cup of Nations, having featured in three of their four matches. Coach Hossam Hassan has utilized him in multiple positions, including midfield and left wing.
Trezeguet has made 23 appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations since his debut in the 2017 edition, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
It’s worth noting that the Egyptian squad will be at full strength against Ivory Coast, with the exception of Mohamed Hamdy, who suffered a torn cruciate ligament during the match against Benin and will be sidelined for at least six months.
