Manchester City have announced the signing of Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for a fee of approximately £65 million.
This is the most expensive sale in Bournemouth’s history, after Manchester City activated the release clause in the player’s contract before the deadline on Saturday. The Citizens will pay £62.5 million in 24 monthly installments, in addition to bonuses and incentives.
Manchester City secured the deal ahead of their Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea.
The Ghanaian winger has signed a contract until 2031 and will wear the number 42 shirt, famously worn by club legend Yaya Touré, who won three Premier League titles during his time with the team.
“I’m incredibly proud to be joining Manchester City,” said Semenyo, 26, after signing. “This club has set the highest standards in football, with world-class players and facilities, and one of the greatest managers in history, Pep Guardiola.”
The London-born Semenyo bid farewell to his former club Bournemouth in the best possible way, scoring the winning goal in stoppage time against Tottenham last Wednesday.
He has scored 10 goals in 20 appearances, placing him third in the Premier League top scorers list behind his new teammate Erling Haaland (20 goals) and Brentford’s Igor Tiago (16 goals).
