Spanish press reports have revealed that Real Madrid has settled on its first defensive reinforcement target for the upcoming summer transfer window, a player nicknamed “French gem.”
The need for a new center-back has become clear to the Royal Club, especially with the expected departures of Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba this summer, leaving only Dean Hoesen and the returning Éder Militão.
According to the reports, Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet is Florentino Pérez’s primary target for the summer, after closely monitoring him over the past two seasons in Ligue 1.
Jacquet is known for his strength in aerial duels and defensive tackles, and his statistics surpass those of his peers in Europe’s top leagues. He also possesses an exceptional ability to initiate attacks with his feet. Thus, he is the defender Real Madrid is looking for, and club officials believe he can lead the Santiago Bernabéu defense for years to come.
Jacquet is under contract with Rennes until the summer of 2029, but his club believes that with Real Madrid and other top European clubs interested in the player, they will have to let him leave in June.
Real Madrid are reportedly planning to make an opening offer of €35 million to Rennes for the 20-year-old defender.
It’s worth noting that Jacquet has also been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and top Premier League clubs, but the Frenchman’s preferred destination remains unknown.
