Tensions flared within the Nigerian national team camp in recent hours after Victor Osimhen decided to leave following an altercation with Ademola Lookman during the match against Mozambique.
Osimhen scored two goals in the Super Eagles’ 4-0 victory, but he clashed with Lookman and demanded to leave the pitch. The coach immediately complied, but Osimhen further expressed his anger upon returning to the team hotel.
According to Nigerian media reports, Osimhen threw away his Africa Cup of Nations badge and announced to everyone in the camp that his time with his country was over and that he would be returning to Galatasaray.
Osimhen has already begun working on his return to Turkey, prompting intervention from senior officials in the Nigerian Football Federation in an attempt to persuade him to stay and resolve the crisis.
The 26-year-old’s future with Nigeria remains uncertain, and efforts are underway to persuade him to stay and resolve the situation. A full picture is expected within the next few hours.
Nigeria has qualified for the quarterfinals and will face Algeria in a highly anticipated match at the Marrakech Stadium next Saturday.
