Tunisian media outlets have reported that Sami Trabelsi, the coach of the Tunisian national team, may be nearing the end of his tenure with the Carthage Eagles, and it is highly unlikely he will remain in his position until the 2026 World Cup.
Trabelsi has faced considerable criticism due to Tunisia’s performance in the group stage. Despite a promising start with a 3-1 victory over Uganda, the Carthage Eagles suffered a 3-2 defeat against Nigeria, followed by one of their worst performances in their final group match against Tanzania, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to recent reports, if Tunisia loses to Mali in the round of 16, Sami Trabelsi will be immediately dismissed.
The same sources indicated that there is widespread dissatisfaction within the Tunisian Football Federation due to the inconsistent performances, and there are serious doubts about whether Trabelsi is the right man to lead Tunisia in the upcoming crucial period.
The Tunisian Football Federation is aware that an early exit from the continental tournament would be another failure, adding to a series of recent setbacks, making it difficult to justify keeping Trabelsi in his position.
It’s worth noting that Trabelsi downplayed the significance of these reports in recent hours, requesting the same support given to Walid Regragui in Morocco and Hossam Hassan in Egypt. He emphasized that his current focus is on defeating Mali, reaching the quarterfinals, and bringing joy to the Tunisian people.
