Real Madrid will attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck in the upcoming winter transfer window. While the deal appears complicated at this stage, it could potentially be finalized in the summer of 2026, according to The Telegraph.
The Spanish giants are looking for a new center-back following the expected departures of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger. Schlotterbeck appears to be the ideal option for Florentino Pérez’s administration, especially since his contract with Dortmund expires in the summer of 2027.
The German club has initially set a price tag of €70 million for Schlotterbeck this summer, particularly given the significant interest from several top clubs, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
For Real Madrid, this price tag is excessive, and they have no intention of bidding for the German international. However, they will submit another generous offer to Dortmund in the hope of convincing the Signal Iduna Park management to sell.
This offer involves selling Gonzalo Garcia and Diego Aguado to Dortmund, in addition to paying €35 million to finalize the Schlotterbeck deal. Bild believes this will not satisfy the German club’s demands, but it could be a good starting point for negotiations between the two parties.
It’s worth noting that the 25-year-old Schlotterbeck is very keen on a move to Real Madrid. Spanish newspapers have previously reported that he rejected Barcelona’s interest, as only the Madrid giants currently interest him.
