Barcelona fans chanted Xabi Alonso’s name during the Catalan club’s match against Villarreal in La Liga.
Barça maintained their lead in the La Liga standings, four points ahead of Real Madrid, following a 2-0 away victory against Villarreal.
The Barcelona fans, who traveled to the Estadio de la Cerámica to support their team, used their team’s impressive performance to mock their eternal rivals, Real Madrid.
The Catalan fans chanted “Alonso stay,” clearly mocking the coach who has so far failed to deliver the expected impact at Real Madrid.
This isn’t the first time Barcelona fans have chanted like this; they did so again last week against Osasuna at Camp Nou.
Alonso’s future with Real Madrid is uncertain, even after winning the last three matches, especially as he has begun to lose the support of the dressing room.
Unless something changes, the Basque coach will remain with Real Madrid until the Spanish Super Cup, which kicks off on January 7 in Saudi Arabia.
Alonso had won his first Clásico as Real Madrid coach against Barcelona 2-1 last October, before everything turned against him starting in November.
