Thiago Silva Joins a European Giant

Thiago Silva has finalized an agreement with a major European club to return to the continent on a short-term contract to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

The 41-year-old Silva mutually terminated his contract with Fluminense at his own request, seeking one last stint in European football before retiring.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Thiago Silva has already signed with Portuguese club Porto, marking his return to the Dragons for a second spell.

The Brazilian international will spend the remainder of the current season with Porto, with the possibility of a one-year extension by mutual agreement.

Porto was Silva’s first European club, joining them 20 years ago in January 2005. He played for them for just six months before moving to Dynamo Moscow.

Silva hopes to convince Carlo Ancelotti that he still has something to offer, so he can join Brazil for the 2026 World Cup, after which he might announce his retirement.

The Brazilian center-back is considered one of the world’s best defenders of the last two decades, having played for giants AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. He has won numerous titles, most notably the Champions League with the Blues in 2021.
