Hamdallah Announces International Retirement After Morocco’s Arab Cup Victory

Abderrazak Hamdallah announced his retirement from international football with the Moroccan national team following the Atlas Lions’ victory in the 2025 Arab Cup held in Qatar.

The Al-Shabab striker scored two goals, leading Morocco past Jordan in the final at Lusail Stadium and securing the Arab Cup title for the second time in the country’s history.

After the match, the 35-year-old confirmed that he had accomplished everything he had with both the senior and reserve national teams, and that it was time to step away from international football and focus on his club career.

“The Jordan match was my last with the Moroccan national team,” Hamdallah said at the post-match press conference. “I am extremely happy with this title, which compensates for lean years. Unfortunately, my participation came late, but the important thing is that it finally happened.”

Hamdallah first joined the Moroccan national team in February 2012, and since then has made 28 international appearances, scoring 8 goals. He was part of Walid Regragui’s squad that finished fourth at the 2012 World Cup.

Hamdallah had previously retired from international football in 2019 after being left out of the Africa Cup of Nations squad, but he reversed his decision after speaking with Walid Regragui before the last World Cup in Qatar.

The Moroccan national team is preparing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco and kicks off next Sunday with the Atlas Lions facing Comoros.
