Florian Wirtz finally broke his long-awaited drought, scoring his first goal for Liverpool in Wednesday’s match against Sunderland.
Sunderland took the lead in the 66th minute through Shamseddine Talbi’s powerful strike, but Wirtz finally arrived when Liverpool needed him most, scoring the equalizer.
The German star dribbled past several defenders in the Sunderland penalty area before unleashing a left-footed shot that deflected off defender Noni Madueke and into the Sunderland net.
This goal ended Wirtz’s disappointing run with Liverpool, after 17 appearances without a goal.
Wirtz joined Liverpool last summer for €130 million, the second-highest transfer fee in Premier League history after Alexander Isak (€150 million).
