Tebas Faces Dismissal Over Barcelona Incident… Laporta Dissatisfied!

The Spanish Sports Administrative Court has opened a formal investigation against La Liga president Javier Tebas for breaches of confidentiality concerning FC Barcelona.

Miguel Galán filed a complaint with the Spanish Higher Sports Council alleging that Tebas leaked confidential information about Barcelona’s financial situation to Athletic Bilbao during a controversial meeting several months ago.

This leak led to Neco Williams’ refusal to transfer to Barcelona and his decision to renew his contract with Bilbao. Tebas reportedly revealed the extent of Barcelona’s financial difficulties and how this would prevent the Catalan club from registering the Basque player.

According to Mundo Deportivo, if the allegations against Tebas are proven, he faces the risk of being dismissed from his position. At best, he will receive a stern warning to prevent a recurrence.

Despite strained relations between Barcelona and La Liga, the Catalan club’s president, Joan Laporta, expressed his dissatisfaction with the case and hoped Tebas would not be punished.

“I think it’s not good news,” Laporta told the media on Saturday. “At this moment, I have to say it’s not good news. This investigation was instigated by a group, I don’t know exactly who they are. We’ve already spoken with the president of La Liga and we agreed that this matter was closed.”

He added, “Our relationship with La Liga has become normal, and even good recently, so it’s not good news, because I don’t know where these attempts to remove the president of La Liga are coming from, and I’m not comfortable with them.”

It’s worth noting that Tebas has been president of La Liga since 2013 and is considered one of the most controversial figures in Spain. He has a very poor relationship with the Real Madrid management, particularly with Florentino Pérez, despite claiming to be a fan of the Royal Club.
