Lewandowski’s hat-trick leads Barcelona to victory over Celta and closes in on Real Madrid

Barcelona secured their second consecutive La Liga win with a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaídos Stadium.

The opening goal came within the first ten minutes from the penalty spot. A handball by Marcos Alonso was awarded after a VAR review, allowing Robert Lewandowski to convert.

Barcelona’s lead was short-lived, however, as Sergio Carrera broke through their high defensive line before calmly slotting the ball past Wojciech Szczęsny to level the score.

Barcelona regained the lead in the 37th minute, with the Polish striker once again finding the net. A superb cross from Marcus Rashford found Lewandowski, who tapped it in from close range for his second goal of the evening. But once again, their lead was short-lived, as Celta equalized again, this time through Borja Iglesias shortly before halftime.

The first half looked set to end 2-2, but in stoppage time, Lamine Yamal gave Barcelona the lead for the third time after a Rashford clearance fell to the 18-year-old, who slotted it home with his weaker right foot.

With 20 minutes remaining in the second half, Barcelona extended their lead, with Lewandowski scoring his third goal of the evening, heading in a Rashford corner to complete his hat-trick.

Barcelona moved up to second place in La Liga with 28 points, having won nine of their matches, drawn one, and lost two.

The German coach Hansi Flick’s team reduced the gap with rivals Real Madrid to three points, taking advantage of Los Blancos’ goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano in the same round.
