“Salah’s current form doesn’t qualify him for a starting role with Liverpool.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah should not start the upcoming matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Brentford, given the “Egyptian King’s” significant decline in form this season.

Salah’s performance was disappointing during Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat of the season, a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield, forcing manager Arne Slot to substitute him in the final quarter-hour and bring on Jeremie Frimpong.

Carragher said after the derby loss, “I don’t think Salah should start against Frankfurt and Brentford. Liverpool will be playing away, and I don’t think Salah should start every away game now given his current form.”

He added, “Salah should always start at Anfield because Liverpool will be in control of the game, on the edge of the box, and often score in those situations. But I think away games are different.”

Meanwhile, Carragher believes that Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak should be key players in the upcoming period, explaining, “The club has spent a lot on them, and they’re younger than Salah.”

Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for €130 million, plus another €20 million in variables. Alexander Isak is the most expensive signing in Premier League history, having been paid €150 million to sign him from Newcastle.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal, and their upcoming match against Frankfurt is a two-horse affair after losing 1-0 to Galatasaray in Turkey last week.
