Real Madrid snatched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in the ninth round of La Liga.
The Royals had to endure a patient 80 minutes before Kylian Mbappé scored the winner, capitalizing on a brilliant pass from Arda Güler that placed him in front of the Getafe goal, where he fired a powerful shot into the net.
This was Mbappé’s 10th goal of the La Liga season, and overall, this is the 11th consecutive match in which the 25-goal striker has scored at least 25 goals for both Real Madrid and France.
The match witnessed a bizarre red card, when Allan Nyom received a red card just 30 seconds after coming on the pitch. The incident sparked controversy after Getafe deemed the referee’s decision (which was upheld by VAR) too harsh.
In the 83rd minute, Getafe received another red card, this time to Alex Sancres, leaving Bordalas’s side with nine men and unable to score an equalizer.
David Alaba left the match with an injury, but according to Spanish media, it’s not serious and he may be fit for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Juventus.
The victory ensures Real Madrid’s return to the top of La Liga, with 24 points, two ahead of Barcelona, ahead of next Sunday’s El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu.
