England secured its place in the 2026 World Cup after a resounding 5-0 victory over Latvia in Group 1 of the European qualifiers.
The goals for England were scored by Anthony Gordon in the (26) minute, Harry Kane (44 and 45+3 penalty kick), Latvia’s Tonesevis own goal (57), and Eberechi Eze (86).
Thanks to this victory, the England team rose to 18 points at the top of its group, seven points ahead of the closest pursuer, Albania, with two rounds remaining in the qualifiers. This has officially secured Thomas Tuchel’s squad’s qualification for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
England’s record in these qualifiers is more than perfect, with the Three Lions winning six of their six matches, scoring 18 goals, while goalkeeper Jordan Pickford did not concede a single goal.
England became the first European team to officially qualify for the World Cup, after Portugal failed to do so following a 2-2 draw with Hungary in Lisbon.
