Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba has announced his retirement from football at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
“The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I have decided to end my professional football career at the end of this season,” Alba said.
“I do this with complete conviction, peace, and happiness. I feel I have embarked on this path with every ounce of passion I had, and now is the right time to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.”
Alba joins his former Barcelona teammate and current Miami teammate Sergio Busquets in calling it a day, after the latter announced earlier this month that he would retire from professional football at the end of this season.
Alba helped Barcelona win six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey titles, four Spanish Super Cups, and the 2014-15 Champions League title. Alba was also a key member of Spain’s European Championship-winning squad in 2012.
Since joining Lionel Messi in Miami in 2023, the left-back has made 66 appearances in MLS, registering 31 goal contributions (11 goals and 20 assists).
