Lewandowski misses a crucial penalty as Barcelona loses 4-1 in Seville!

Barcelona suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of hosts Sevilla, 4-1, in the eighth round of La Liga at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.

Sevilla took the lead in the 13th minute with a controversial penalty converted by Alexis Sánchez, before Isaac Romero doubled the lead in the 36th minute.

Just before halftime, Marcus Rashford reduced the deficit with Barcelona’s first goal. Robert Lewandowski had the chance to equalize in the 76th minute when Barça won a penalty.

But Lewandowski, bizarrely, sent the penalty wide, denying Barcelona an equalizer. While Hansi Flick’s side were still chasing a second goal, Jose Carmona sealed the match with a third for Sevilla in the 90th minute.

Lewandowski has missed three of his ten penalties in La Liga; only Iago Aspas and Vedat Muriqi have missed more (four) since the 2022-23 season.

In the 96th minute, the Andalusian team’s fourth goal came through Akor Adams, handing Barcelona their first defeat of the season in La Liga.

This is Barcelona’s second consecutive defeat in all competitions, following a 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. It’s also the second consecutive defeat in Flick’s era, having suffered two consecutive defeats in December 2024.

Barcelona’s points tally remains at 19, losing its lead in La Liga to Real Madrid, who have 21 points.
