Sport reported that Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo received four major offers during the last summer transfer window, but he rejected them all and preferred to remain with the Catalan club.
Araujo renewed his contract with Barcelona last winter with a €60 million release clause, effective only in July, attracting interest from the giants of the top five leagues.
According to the report, Liverpool was the most interested in signing Araujo, as Reds officials saw him as the ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of the season and is close to leaving for Real Madrid.
Two London clubs, Tottenham and Chelsea, have also entered the race to sign the Uruguayan defender and have contacted the player’s entourage to explore the possibility of securing his services.
The last club to try to sign Araujo was Juventus. However, the player’s response was clear: he wants to shine at Barcelona and no other club, and he believes that staying with Hansi Flick’s side is the best option for his career at the moment.
The 26-year-old defender believes Barcelona is the ideal place to end his career, having given him the opportunity to break out and shine at the highest level.
Araujo quickly regained Hansi Flick’s confidence after being a substitute most of last season, which makes him very happy now. He hopes to continue at the same level and cement his place as a starter at Camp Nou.
