Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has emerged as a target for Barcelona, with the club eyeing a free transfer when his contract with the German club expires in the summer of 2026.
Schlotterbeck is considered one of the best German defenders currently, boasting physical strength and speed, and is also left-footed, a characteristic Barcelona currently lacks.
According to Sport, Hansi Flick wants Barcelona to sign a left-footed center-back with similar attributes to Schlotterbeck.
Sporting director Deco is closely monitoring the situation and has identified Schlotterbeck as an option, along with Portuguese defender Gonçalo Inácio.
The option to sign Schlotterbeck generally hinges on two factors: the club’s financial situation next summer, and the departure of Andreas Christensen.
So far, Barcelona has not made any offer to renew the Danish defender, and it’s likely he will be put up for sale next summer.
It should be noted that Schlotterbeck has not yet renewed his contract with Dortmund, despite the German club’s attempts, as he seeks to move to a club that competes in all competitions.
