Slot blames Liverpool star for Crystal Palace defeat

Liverpool manager Arne Slot blamed one of the Reds’ stars for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Palace took the lead through Ismaila Sarr in the ninth minute, and after a sluggish start, Liverpool equalized in the 87th minute through Federico Chiesa. Edward Nketiah surprised everyone by snatching all three points in the dying seconds with a last-gasp goal for Oliver Glasner’s side.

Slot commented on Crystal Palace’s winning goal after the match, saying, “One of our players decided to run because he wanted to surprise the opponent with a counterattack, and it was pointless because we were on the defensive.”

He added, “Maybe he decided to do it because our team has the ball, but in the end, he was the reason for this goal.”

While Slot did not reveal the identity of the player, the Daily Mail confirmed that the Dutchman was referring to right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

The goal replay shows that the Dutchman was tasked with marking Nketiah during the foul that led to the goal, but as the ball initially bounced off Liverpool’s defense, he moved forward and overlooked the Palace player. Then, what happened happened.

Frimpong did not start the match, replacing Ibrahima Konate in the final quarter-hour.

It’s worth noting that Frimpong isn’t the first player to be attacked by Slot. In fact, the attack on him was less severe than the Dutchman’s attack a few days ago on Hugo Ekitike after he took off his shirt and received a red card against Southampton. The coach called it a “stupid act.”
