It’s over… William Saliba will not join Real Madrid

William Saliba has reached an agreement with Arsenal to renew his contract, ending all rumours about a possible move to Real Madrid next summer.

The club is looking for a new defender in light of the expected departures of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba. Saliba was the leading candidate, along with Ibrahima Konate, to form the future of the Santiago Bernabéu defence.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal made an improved offer to Saliba in the final hours, including a high salary, and the French defender accepted this offer. It will now be a matter of hours before the player signs and confirms his future with the Gunners.

Saliba’s salary has not been disclosed, but it is expected to exceed £300,000 per week. The contract will include an additional three years, keeping the 24-year-old at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2030.

While Real Madrid lost the chance to sign Saliba, they still have a chance to sign Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano. Both players are said to be very open to such a move, but Liverpool and Bayern Munich are currently working on renewing their contracts by all means possible.
