Barcelona will be without their star player Gavi for a long time after it was confirmed that he needs surgery.
Gavi suffered a knee injury at the end of August, and although the medical staff were optimistic that it was a minor injury, the reality is that the 20-year-old continued to suffer pain.
After much hesitation, Barcelona’s medical staff decided that Gavi would undergo arthroscopic surgery to completely resolve his knee problems, allowing him to return to full strength with Hansi Flick’s squad.
Gavi underwent intensive stress tests on Sunday after completing conservative treatment for his right knee meniscus injury. The result was that his optimal recovery would require arthroscopic surgery, and the player agreed to the idea after all the doctors supported it.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi will be out for at least five weeks, meaning his absence will likely extend until early November.
The midfielder will therefore miss the La Liga matches against Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Real Oviedo, and the El Clásico against Real Madrid, as well as the Champions League matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Olympiacos.
If the treatment program goes as planned, Gavi could make his return in the Catalan shirt against Elche on November 2.
