Barcelona fans were surprised by the absence of Marcus Rashford from the Catalan club’s squad for Sunday’s match against Getafe at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The England international impressed last Thursday, scoring both goals in Barça’s Champions League win over Newcastle United. He was expected to continue as a starter, especially given Lamine Yamal’s injury.
However, Hansi Flick decided to leave Rashford out of the starting lineup for the Getafe match. According to Spanish media, the reason behind this was a “disciplinary decision” rather than a rest for the player.
Rashford was late to the pre-match technical meeting, which Flick considered unquestionable, so he immediately punished him by leaving him out of the starting lineup for the match against Getafe.
Ferran Torres will replace Rashford on the left wing, while Raphinha will replace the injured Lamine Yamal on the right wing.
Flick had also excluded Rafinha from the previous match against Valencia due to his late arrival, and he did the same last season with Jules Kounde, Iñaki Peña, and others.
