Real Madrid secured a valuable 2-0 victory over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the fifth round of La Liga.
Before the match, Espanyol was one of three unbeaten teams, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona, having collected 10 points from their first three matches. However, Xabi Alonso’s side delivered a remarkable performance, securing the three points and halting the Catalan club’s impressive start.
Perhaps what could be called Real Madrid’s two goals against Espanyol were “rockets”!
Eder Militao opened the scoring in the 21st minute, receiving the ball from midfield and unleashing a powerful right-footed shot that goalkeeper Dmitrovic failed to control. Real took the lead.

Militao’s goal was also historic, coming after a sequence of 26 consecutive passes between Real Madrid players, a record for the longest sequence of passes leading to a goal by a defender in La Liga since at least the 2005-06 season.
In the second half, Kylian Mbappé continued his impressive form this season, firing a shot from the edge of the box that beat the Espanyol goalkeeper, securing the Frenchman’s fifth La Liga goal of the season and seventh overall in all competitions.

With this result, Real Madrid maintains its perfect lead in La Liga and temporarily extends its lead over Barcelona to five points until the Catalan club plays Getafe on Sunday at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
