Javier Enríquez, the son of Jose Maria Enríquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Spanish Referees Committee, denied reports that he had testified against his father and Barcelona in the alleged corruption case.
Javier testified before Barcelona’s investigating judge, Alejandra Gil, who also heard from several prominent figures in the case, including former club presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as Negreira’s wife, who remained silent.
According to Spanish media, Javier’s testimony was against his father, who stated that he was unaware of any connection between him and Barcelona, and that the money, if his father had received it, would have been “immoral.”
Newspapers reported, citing Javier, that he received only $60,000 between 2001 and 2018 in exchange for technical reports he prepared for Barcelona on refereeing matters. However, the Catalan club claimed that Negreira received €7.5 million, which could prove the bribery charge against the former vice president.
After this news spread like wildfire, Javier Enríquez appeared on Cadena Cope radio and confirmed that everything circulated about this testimony was baseless and merely media fabrications.
Javier sought to put an end to these rumors, emphasizing that he had only spoken the truth and that it did not include what was published on his behalf in the past few hours. He did not reveal exactly what he said, but he certainly spoke in favor of his father, denying the bribery charge.
