Former Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez sparked controversy when he considered Mohamed Salah a better player overall than Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is well known that the relationship between Benitez and Ronaldo has been very poor since the coach’s time at Real Madrid. The Portuguese was unconvinced of his abilities and mocked him on several occasions due to his training methods and instructions.
In a recent interview, Benitez was asked about the best between Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah. He replied, “Salah, you’re talking about strikers. Salah has been consistent for many years.”
When asked about the comparison between Ronaldo and Salah, he replied, “Ronaldo may be better at finishing, but Mohamed Salah is more complete.”
Benitez is considered one of the most important coaches in Liverpool’s history, having coached the English club from 2004 to 2010. While he did not win the Premier League title, he led the Reds to numerous achievements, most notably the Champions League final in Istanbul against AC Milan.
