The Portuguese League awarded Cristiano Ronaldo a controversial award called “Best of All Time.”
The league held a ceremony on Wednesday to award the best players in the Portuguese league last season, during which a new award was announced, titled “Best of All Time,” and awarded to Ronaldo.
The league did not specify whether this award was for Ronaldo as the best player of all time in the Portuguese league or globally.
It is likely that the award refers to the best player in the world, as the league published a photo of Ronaldo wearing the jerseys of the various clubs he represented, not just Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo commented on the award, saying, “I thank the Portuguese League for this award, which bears the name of the best player of all time.”
He added, “As you can imagine, it is a great honor to have something for my country.”
The 40-year-old Ronaldo is considered one of the most prolific footballers of all time, having won 34 titles across his club and national team career, as well as scoring 956 goals. Reaching the 1,000-goal mark remains his top priority before retiring.
