The Egyptian national team returned with a valuable point from Ouagadougou after a goalless draw with Burkina Faso in the eighth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The victory in this match was enough to secure the Pharaohs’ qualification for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, joining Morocco and Tunisia.
Egypt now leads the group with 20 points, compared to 15 for Burkina Faso, with two rounds remaining in the qualifiers.
In principle, if Egypt wins against Djibouti by any score in October, it will officially secure its place in the World Cup.
In the event of a draw with Djibouti and a win for Burkina Faso, Egypt will need one point from the final match against Guinea-Bissau.
It should be noted that in the event of a tie between two teams on points, the head-to-head results are used, and in this case, Egypt has the advantage over Burkina Faso.
Egypt losing both matches, or losing one match and drawing the other, are the only two ways the Pharaohs will not qualify for the World Cup.
