Hoeness: Bayern Munich activating Jackson’s purchase option is “impossible”

Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, has tried to downplay the backlash against the Bavarian club’s management over the details of Nicolas Jackson’s loan deal from Chelsea.

German media reported that Bayern Munich paid €16.5 million to sign Jackson on a one-year loan, and the contract included a purchase option that could be made mandatory in certain circumstances, for €65 million.

Many Bayern fans believe the deal was too costly financially and fell short of sporting expectations, a claim Hoeness sought to refute during a media appearance on Saturday.

The historic Bayern Munich president said, “Jackson and his agent contributed €3 million to the deal, so the actual value of the loan does not exceed €13.5 million.”

He added, “We will definitely not buy Jackson next summer. The only way the purchase option will be activated is if the player makes 40 appearances this season, which I assure you is impossible.”

Bayern Munich is participating in two domestic competitions (the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal) and the Champions League this season, and he will likely play more than 50 matches. However, Hoeness and the board will force coach Vincent Kompany to limit Jackson’s appearances so that the purchase doesn’t become mandatory at this price next year.
