The surprises of the final days of the summer transfer window continue, the latest of which was Ilkay Gundogan’s sudden departure from Manchester City.
While English media outlets reported at the beginning of the summer that Gundogan was likely to leave, last month the trend was for the German star to remain at the Etihad Stadium, with virtually no offers for him.
Ultimately, Gundogan received a sensational offer from Galatasaray, and City agreed to sell their historic captain to the Turkish giants.
According to Turkish media, Galatasaray will pay only €5 million for Gundogan, and City agreed to the sale in recognition of the player’s desire to leave after his legendary career with Pep Guardiola’s side.
The 33-year-old will sign a two-year contract with Galatasaray, and his first photo in the Turkish club’s shirt was taken in the past few minutes.
It’s worth noting that Gundogan returned to City last year after a single, unsuccessful year with Barcelona. He had another year left on his contract, but he realized his chances of playing time were limited due to the new signings and his advancing age, so he opted for a return to his native Turkey.
