Hakim Ziyech Moves to La Liga

Hakim Ziyech will return to European football after a brief stint with Qatari club Al-Duhail.

The Moroccan terminated his contract with Al-Duhail after failing to make the desired impact from January until the end of last season, and is still searching for a new club just hours before the summer transfer window closes.

According to Spanish media reports, Ziyech is on the verge of a return to Europe via La Liga, specifically via newly promoted Elche.

Elche’s sporting director, Pedro Szczesnoka, confirmed that negotiations are already underway with Ziyech, saying, “He’s a great player. There are possibilities. He’s an option for us. We’ll see what happens in the coming hours.”

The 32-year-old hopes Elche will be his gateway to the Moroccan national team again, whether at the Africa Cup of Nations next December or the next World Cup in June 2026.

This will be Ziyech’s first experience in Spain, having previously represented Ajax, Chelsea, and Galatasaray.

It should be noted that Elche has managed to earn five points in its first three matches, with the most notable result for coach Eder Sarabia’s side being a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid.
