Fenerbahçe officially announced on Friday the dismissal of its coach, Jose Mourinho, due to poor results.
For the second year in a row, the “Special One” failed to lead Fenerbahçe to the Champions League stage, after being eliminated from the competition in the play-offs by Benfica last Wednesday.
Fenerbahçe simply announced Mourinho’s dismissal in a statement, wishing the Portuguese coach success in his career, without announcing a replacement.
Mourinho’s dismissal seems logical, as the 62-year-old failed to win any titles in his first year with the Turkish club and was plagued by numerous crises, most notably when he assaulted the Galatasaray coach.
Mourinho is not expected to stay at home much longer after this dismissal, as he has been linked with a return to the English Premier League in recent days.
West Ham are considering sacking Graham Potter after a disastrous start to the season, while Nottingham Forest may sack manager Nuno Espirito Santo to succeed him, with Mourinho emerging as an option for both clubs.
Mourinho has been sacked in his last five managerial roles, starting with Chelsea, then Manchester United, Tottenham, and Roma, reflecting how his career has deteriorated, particularly over the past 10 years.
