Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib instructed Sporting Director Mohamed Youssef to close the contract renewals for Emam Ashour and goalkeeper Mostafa Shobair.
In recent weeks, Al Ahly has opened channels of communication with Emam Ashour to renew his contract until 2029, with a salary increase to match those of the first-team squad.
According to Egyptian media reports, El Khatib has decided to postpone negotiations with Emam and Shobair for a period of time, specifically until the end of this year.
El Khatib wants the players to focus on the difficult period Al Ahly is going through, after two draws in three matches in the Egyptian League.
Al Ahly wants Emam Ashour and Shobair to stay and will fight for that. However, the club believes there are other players whose contracts it is necessary to renew now, and then move on to the two.
Mohamed Youssef will negotiate with Ahmed Nabil Kouka, Karim Fouad, and Aliou Dieng after the upcoming Pyramids match. As for Ashour and Shobair, negotiations have been postponed until December to resume.
It’s worth noting that goalkeeper Shobair has been subjected to much criticism following his poor performance in the first two matches, which led to Mohamed El-Shenawy’s return to guard Al Ahly’s goal against Ghazl El-Mahalla in the previous round.
It’s also worth noting that Emam Ashour has not yet participated in any Al Ahly matches due to his incomplete recovery from a collarbone injury. Media reports suggest he will be available for the Pyramids match or after the international break at the latest.
