Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Gianluigi Donnarumma is on the verge of a move to Manchester City less than a week before the end of the summer transfer window.
Pep Guardiola urged City to sign Donnarumma to fill the obvious goalkeeping gap after new signing James Trafford’s poor performance against Tottenham in the second round of the Premier League.
Previously, negotiations had taken place between City and Paris Saint-Germain regarding Donnarumma, with the French club seeking at least €50 million to sell the Italian goalkeeper.
Romano revealed that PSG significantly lowered its demands in the final hours and are now open to selling Donnarumma for a sum ranging from €30 to €35 million, which also aligns with City’s view on the deal.
There is a near-agreement between PSG and City regarding the details of the deal, but the future of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson and the failure of his negotiations with Galatasaray are holding things back.
The entire deal now hinges on what the Turkish club will do with Ederson. If they reach an agreement with City, Donnarumma will join immediately. If the Brazilian continues, the deal will be canceled.
It’s worth noting that City also owns German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium before the end of this summer.
