Carlo Ancelotti, coach of the Brazilian national team, has made a decision that will further complicate Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes’s woes.
The Italian coach is preparing to announce his squad for two 2026 World Cup qualifiers in early September.
TNT reported that Ancelotti decided not to call up Rodrygo due to his lack of consistent playing time for Real Madrid in recent months.
Ancelotti believes that the primary criterion for signing players is their consistent playing time with their clubs. Rodrygo has been on the bench since last April and did not feature much in the 2025 Club World Cup.
At the start of the season, Rodrygo also did not play in the Real Madrid match against Osasuna, further complicating his situation at the Santiago Bernabéu. Now, Ancelotti is adding to his pain by excluding him from the Brazilian national team.
Rodrygo’s sense that his participation in the 2026 World Cup is in doubt if he remains a substitute at Real Madrid will motivate him to move in the final days of the transfer window to look for a new destination, even though his departure from Los Blancos appears difficult at the moment.
It’s worth noting that Ancelotti also decided to exclude Eder Militao to give him a chance to rest and regain his form, and he also decided to exclude Vinicius Junior due to his one-match suspension.
