Nottingham Forest are moving toward sacking manager Nuno Santo despite a strong start to the current season and the team’s remarkable success last season.
Nottingham finished seventh in the Premier League last season and qualified for the Europa Conference League, their first European competition in decades. Due to Crystal Palace’s exclusion from the Europa League, they replaced the London club in the second-most important continental competition.
This season, Nottingham opened the season with a resounding 3-1 victory over Brentford, but the board is seriously considering terminating the Portuguese coach’s services.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is deeply angry with Santo, and the relationship between the two has reached a low point in recent days.
Santo publicly accused Nottingham Forest’s management of not performing adequately during the current summer transfer window and not fully meeting his demands, which angered Marinakis and increased tensions between him and the coach.
The current trend is toward terminating Santo’s services, especially since Nottingham Forest’s management is satisfied with its performance in the transfer window. This is also confirmed by the figures, which have already spent over €170 million, and there are still attempts to sign new players in the final week remaining.
It’s worth noting that the relationship between the owner and coach has not been good for some time, and the image of Marinakis’ anger at Santo after losing a Champions League spot last season, on the pitch, remains in the minds of all football fans around the world.
